I love the perspective you took on this! I never thought of it that way but it's true--whenever there has been a revelation or manifesttation of/from God, it's sorta like the red pill/blue pill idea.
Hope you find the Truth!

Ronsterjoon
This is excellent. A friend in Newham wanted an explanation of the Matrix and word-of-mouth lore has it that the film was inspired by quotes from the Baha'i Writings. It is good to have an explanation to point people to.
Bring on Part 2.....

Thanks Badhras for your comment. You have raised very interesting points.

Especially "One thing religious types are very good at doing is pointing at (or selling) the paradise. They often fail to mention the fine print… that there’s a journey… and it’s wrought with challenges and tests… and that it can hurt at times, when you have to come face-to-face with all of the grime and horror that is you."

First of all, my entry is definitely an oversimplification of the Search for Truth. as a simple follower of a Faith, there is no way I can sum up all the intricacies of the mystical journey of the soul in a small blog entry. My entry is simply talking about the idea of choice, and free will to begin that search. As in the film, once Neo takes the pill, then his troubles really begin.

I completely agree with you that the journey is wrought with challenges and tests...... that is what part 2 is all about. The journey is not peachy. Paradise is a very abstract thing to many. In the Baha'i Faith its nearness to God, which has infinite degrees. Its not a location, place and its not black and white. There is lots of to-ing and fro-ing along the way. Progression, regression. The idea of the journey is 2 steps forward, one step back (via tests)....overall, hopefully the net gain is that you move forward!

However the choice to begin the search or journey is more black and white, but it can happen at many points in your life.... not just once.

Taking the pill is the easiest thing to do in the journey. The further you go on the journey, the harder the tests get. That is how we grow.

Thanks for your comment again, and thanks for reading. Stay tuned for Part 2. :)

And then there are those who are like Cypher... chose the red pill and ended up wishing they opted for the blue pill. As a disclaimer, I'm not here to question, tempt, or accuse your faith. Rather, I'm simply reminding you that the blue pill is rather compelling for many... and why not? Why go outside, when you can watch TV inside? Why learn, when you can be told what you need to know? Why be confronted with choices of consequence when you can choose between McDonalds or Burger King, Coke or Pepsi, Democrat or Republican? There is something nice about being fat, dumb, and happy... it's just a different kind of 'nice'. If you spend your life comfortable in the soft and warm squishy that is feces, your awakening isn't exactly going to be fun. You have to be a certain type of individual that is willing to accept the burden of conscience. One thing religious types are very good at doing is pointing at (or selling) the paradise. They often fail to mention the fine print... that there's a journey... and it's wrought with challenges and tests... and that it can f*ing hurt at times, when you have to come face-to-face with all of the grime and horror that is you. That even when you thought you were better or wiser or more enlightened, there was yet another thing to learn, another fault to uncover and correct, and always yet another step to take in the infinite journey towards God. Yes, the Truth that is God is nice, bright, and shiny... full of warm fuzzy feelings. Well worth it for those who strive... but you really gotta' want to.

Truth is the light we need to illumine those passages of darkness that we often get lost in.

As an avid, life long science fiction reader, as well as a truth seeker through both religious and scientific modes of study, I concur with the concepts and sentiments. Excellent food for thought.
